Verkhovna Rada adopted in its first reading the bill on mine action in Ukraine (No. 9080-1).

240 deputies out of 308 people registered in the session hall voted for this decision from the second attempt.

The draft law establishes that Ukraine has national standards in the field of mine action, which are developed taking into account the provisions of International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), approved by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).
National standards in the field of mine action are developed by the center of mine action, coordinated by the national authority for mine action and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The main purpose of mine action in Ukraine is to reduce the risk associated with explosive objects to a level that provides a person with free choice of place of residence or stay, economic and social development, development of health care and meeting the needs of affected persons resulting from contamination of territories and (or) water areas explosive objects.

The main components of the types of mine action in Ukraine include, in particular, the survey, marking and mapping of the territory; cleaning the contaminated area by performing demining works, namely: identifying, transporting, neutralizing or destroying explosive objects.
Funding for mine action activities is carried out within budget allocations, approved by the law on the state budget for the relevant year, funds from local budgets, enterprises, institutions and organizations regardless of ownership, as well as from other sources of funding not prohibited by law.
