The commission of the Ministry of Justice of Estonia has calculated the damage caused to the country by the Soviet Union occupation. This is about EUR 1.2 billion. This is reported by ERR inform agency.

«The international law allows us to sue for damages resulting from occupation, and in the past several states have done so. The Soviet Union has occupied Estonia in 1940, and the occupying power is responsible for the caused damage,» – said the Commission’s Chairman and historian Thomas Hiyo.

It is noted that almost 50 thousand people have died from repressions. In addition, more than 139 thousand people were forced to leave Estonia.
A lot of labor force was brought to Estonia, and the share of Estonians decreased from 89% in 1941 to 61% in 1989.
As The Journalist reported, Estonia and Russia swap convicted spies.
