On October 11, The Washington state Supreme Court (US) officially struck down the death penalty in the state. This is reported by The Washington Post news agency.
Thus, Washington became the 20th state, which abandoned the death penalty in US.
According to the report, the fate of eight people sentenced to death, who are now held in state prisons, remains uncertain. According to the court’s decision, the death sentences already ruled by him must be commuted to life imprisonment.
The death penalty is stipulated in the federal legislation and introduced in 30 states of the US.
