The US Air Force ordered the development of guided aerial bombs with changeable power of the warhead explosion, Breaking Defense reports.

The US Air Force intends to use bombs with a variable explosion power in order to universalize the combat load of aircraft, which could be quite effectively used against various targets.

According to Garry Haase, the director of the US Air Force Research Unit, US Air Force Research Laboratory, the same aircraft will be able to drop a bomb at full blast to destroy a fortified enemy position, and then just slam like a bullet another one bomb with now-inert warhead into one person.

To create a bomb warhead with a variable explosion power, the researchers intend to use additive technologies that allow at the printing stage to distribute an explosive in the warhead against several detonators, which will allow to «tune» the initiation of the explosion.

As The Journalist reported, US Air Force ordered the development of a new ultra-long cruise missile.
