Ruins of a thousand-year-old mosque have been found in Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, archaeologists unearthed the ruins of a mosque, which, presumably, is about a thousand years old.

As Khaleej Times writes, the find is of great value in terms of origin and spread Islam in this region.

It is reported that alongside the construction site of Sheikh Khalifa Mosque in city of El Ain, archaeologists also discovered several irrigation waterways – a phaladzh, three more buildings and a mosque that belongs to the early golden age of Islam from Abbasid caliphate, which existed from 750 to 945 and 1124 to 1258 years.
Researchers note that the construction of mosque and the Faladj used burned bricks, which ensured durability of buildings.

Among ruins of building were found fragments of pots of 7th and 10th centuries, which were probably used for ritual purposes.
Radiocarbon analysis showed that this mosque is the oldest one found on the territory of the UAE.
