To ensure the presence of Ukraine in the western part of Canada the General Consulate of Ukraine will open in Edmonton on September 7, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reports.
This was announced by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada, Andriy Shevchenko.
«On September 7 this year, we plan to accept the first citizen of Ukraine in Edmonton and thereby start the work of the Ukrainian Consulate General in Alberta province,» – said Andriy Shevchenko.
«The West of Canada is, you can say, the Ukrainian land: 15% of Ukrainians are in Manitoba, 14% in Saskatchewan, 13% in Alberta. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of Canadians of Ukrainian descent, so it is very important for them to see the Ukrainian presence … If you live in Vancouver or in Calgary, it will cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars to get to our consulate in Toronto, as well as several days of time,» – the ambassador specified.
