European energy security advisor for the US Department of State, Benjamin Schmitt, said that Russia’s construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline undermines the collective energy security of Europe and Ukrainian sovereignty.
«The gas pipeline will divide Europe and make some EU countries dependent on Russian energy resources,» – reported by the UNIAN news agency quoted Benjamin Schmitt.
According to him, the gas transit via Ukraine is a means that hinders Russia’s aggression. Schmitt said that the US Senate and the House of Representatives have submitted five bills to impose sanctions against Russia because of the Nord Stream-2.
So, the companies that are involved in the construction of this gas pipeline have big risks to fall under US sanctions.
