According to UNIAN, citing «DW» publication, ecologists from the international environmental organization Greenpeace called the position of German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the main point of controversy in the issue of successful conduct of the European Union’s climate policy.
«Instead of assuming the leadership to protect the European climate, to abandon the use of coal and internal combustion engines, she [Angela Merkel] intends to block climate targets at the EU level,» – Greenpeace said.
In particular, the ecologists were outraged by Merkel’s statement, which she made the day before in an interview with the ARD television channel.
«I do not consider it expedient to constantly set new goals: Germany must first achieve the already set goals,» – the chancellor emphasized.
Let’s add, that according to the plan for climate protection, Germany should minimize her greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
