President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have coordinated their positions on the eve of the meeting of the German leader with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As reported on the website of the Head of Ukrainian State, Poroshenko and Merkel have discussed the situation in Donbas and further efforts, including peacekeeping mission, to ensure progress in a peaceful settlement in the region.
In his conversation with Merkel, Poroshenko stressed the need for the immediate release of illegally convicted Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov from the Russian colony, who since May 14 has started a starving protest.
Also, Poroshenko paid special attention to the issue of the releasing of other Ukrainian hostages and the half-prisoners, who were illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and in Russia.
At the same time, the Head of the State and the German chancellor discussed the security issues connected with the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
Note, that on August 18 Merkel will meet with Putin during his visit to Germany.
