President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will submit to the Verkhovna Rada amendments to the Constitution, according to which membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will be the strategic goal of the development of the state.

The Head of State posted this on his official Facebook page.

«Amendments to the Constitution regarding the consolidation of our ambitions for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO are long overdue. I have prepared amendments to the Basic Law that will be submitted to the Ukrainian parliament for consideration since the beginning of a new political season,» – the President stressed.

«There is an opportunity to collect 300 votes for the approval of that decision. I am firmly convinced of this. I will not allow anyone to revise the European and Euro-Atlantic strategy of Ukraine under the influence of various external and internal circumstances. It is also necessary to get rid of the forgotten constitutional grounds dictated by the Kremlin for the temporary stay of the Russian fleet on our territory. I have my own answer and offer for this,» – Poroshenko said.

«I emphasize once again that constitutional changes are an «inoculation» from those persons who still think to «dodge». And that’s why the relevant norms should be fixed in the Constitution,» – added Poroshenko.
