Mother Superior died who saved Patriarch Filaret’s life

On July 29th, after a prolonged severe illness, the 90-year-old superioress Varvara died (in the world – Vera Sergeevna Boronina), in the past – a nun of the Kremenets and Koretsky monasteries, an economist of the Ukrainian exarchate and the Kyiv Patriarchate. This is reported by the press center of the Kyiv Patriarchate on Facebook.

Let us note that on the eve of May 25th, 2018, it was superioress Varbara who prevented the attempt on the life of the Patriarch of Kyiv.
As reported by «Journalist», then she prevented the criminal plans of the supernal bishop Sevastian (Wozniak) to kill the Patriarch of Kyiv’s Filaret. Becoming an unwelcome witness to the intentions of Sevastian, the nun Varvara became a victim of his attack – a man attacked her, sending tear gas into his face from a pre-prepared can.

During the Second World War, Mother Superior Varvara worked at the factory. Since youth, she showed love for the church and worship, for which she was subjected to harassment by atheistic authorities. In the 1950s, as a pilgrim, she visited Ukrainian monasteries, including the Kiev-Pecherska and Pochaev Lavra, women’s monasteries, becoming established in the intention to become a nun.
In 1957 she was accepted as a novice in the Epiphany Convent of Kremenets in the Ternopil region.

After the forced closure of the monastery by the Soviet authorities in 1959, together with other sisters, she moved to the Holy Trinity Koretsky nunnery of Rivne oblast, where she was also an assistant to the abbess, and then performed other obediences. On the feast of 40 Sevastian martyrs in 1972 she was tonsured to a small schema (mantle) with the name of Varvara in honor of the holy martyr.
In 1981, by order of the Metropolitan of Kyiv and Galicia Filaret, the Exarch of Ukraine (now the Patriarch of Kyiv and all Rus-Ukraine), the nun Varvara was appointed economist of the metropolitan residence in Kyiv.
Over the past few years, due to health problems, she has moved away from active work, the illness was bedridden.

Today, July 30th at 9:00, the Patriarch of Kyiv and all Rus-Ukraine Filaret will head the funeral Divine Liturgy and the rank of funeral service.

The funeral will be held at the monastic cemetery near the St. Nicholas Church in the Moshchun village Kyivo-Svyatoshinskyi district of the Kyiv oblast.
