Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Italy Matteo Salvini called the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014 legitimate, and the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine «pseudo-revolution».
This Salvini said in an interview with the US edition of The Washington Post. In particular, he was asked why he was in favor of lifting sanctions against Russia.
«Because they did not prove that they were useful and, in accordance with the information received, they are harmful to Italian exports», Salvini said.
Also, the Italian minister claims that in Crimea in 2014 a «referendum» took place. On the clarifying question that it was a false referendum, Salvini replied that this is the viewpoint of the journalist.
«A referendum was held, and 90% of people voted for the return of the Crimea to Russia», Salvini is confident.
The journalist specified that this was for a «referendum, when Russian soldiers were on the peninsula, the minister suggested comparing it with the revolution in Ukraine.
«Compare it with the fake revolution in Ukraine, which was a «pseudo revolution» financed by foreign countries – similar to the revolutions during the «Arab Spring». There are certain historically Russian zones with Russian culture and traditions that legally belong to the Russian Federation», Italian minister said.
As reported by «Journalist» detained in the US Russian Butina was an ardent separatist for the Crimea and the Donbass.
