Journalists demand a public report on the investigation into the murder of Pavel Sheremet

It’s been exactly two years since the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet, whose investigation Ukrainian authorities called as «a matter of honor».

Two years after the murder, neither the killer nor the contractor were identified. The investigation is still underway.

In this regard, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine demands the prompt investigation of the murder of its colleague and a public report on the results of the investigation.

«Lack of progress in this resonant case is an alarming signal for the whole journalistic community, for society as a whole: impunity for crimes against media producers generates new crimes. Last year, President Poroshenko demanded a public report on the results of the investigation, – said the statement of the head of the NUJU, Serhiy Tomilenko. – For today, there is still no report at all. The Union of Journalists continues to demand that report should be submitted. Journalists and society have the right to know what the investigation did to find and punish the murderers of our colleague. While the journalistic investigation into the murder of Pavel Sheremet (the film «Murder of Pavel») gives much more information than the official investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And the recommendations of the authoritative American Committee to Protect Journalists, set out in the special report «Denial of Justice», remain ignored. Unfortunately, in this case, as well as in dozens of other crimes against journalists, we have nothing to enjoy.»

Recall that the famous journalist, Pavel Sheremet, was killed on July 20, 2016 in Kiev. The car he was driving exploded in the city’s downtown.

As «The Journalist» reported earlier, unknown people beat up a journalist, who was investigating corruption in the prosecutor’s office and customs in Chernivtsi.
