Travellers who don’t need a visa could in the future be screened before they arrive in the EU using the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (Etias). This is reported by Radio Liberty.
The system could start operate as early as 2021, if the vote passes satisfactorily.

«People coming from countries that don’t need a visa to visit the EU will have to fill in an electronic form before travelling with travel documentation and personal data. There will also be background questions about issues such as previous criminal records and their presence in conflict zones,» – the message said.

Authorisation will cost €7 and will be valid for up to three years.
According to Kinga Gál, the Hungarian EPP member, the systemic screening should not cause regular travellers any problems.

«This will allow authorities to asses if someone could pose a risk well before they arrive to EU. If they do, they could be refused entry,» – the message said.

As «The Journalist» reported earlier, the introduction of the ETIAS system in EU will not limit visa-free travel for Ukrainians.
