Austria assumed the presidency of the EU Council, according to the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union website.
«During its presidency, Austria intends to take on the role of bridge builder in Europe and reduce the tensions that have recently arisen. It is important to us to strengthen trust in the EU and ensure that the European Union can perform its big tasks», – said the Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
Note that the Austrian presidency will last until January 1, 2019.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko counts on Vienna’s effective contribution to the promotion of the ambitious agenda of Ukraine-EU relations.
«I welcome the beginning of the Austrian presidency of the EU Council. In Ukraine, we appreciate the high level of our partnership as regards ensuring the security of Europe. We count on the constructive and effectiv contribution of Vienna to the promotion of the ambitious agenda of Ukraine-EU relations», – Poroshenko noted.
According to the Head of State, Ukraine hope on the inviolability of the unity and solidarity with EU in order to jointly counteract the continuing aggression of the Kremlin and defend European values.
As «The Journalist» reported, Austria has created a special police force to repel migrants at the border.
