The United States considers it extremely important to adopt amendments to the law on the Anti-Corruption Court, urging Ukrainian officials to make changes them as soon as possible.
This was announced yesterday, June 26, by the Director of the Office of Eastern European Affairs within the U.S. Department of State Jorgan Andrews.
«Only amending this law, according to which the court will be able to consider all cases within its jurisdiction (including appeals in existing cases of corruption) will help overcome existing corruption threats in Ukraine.», – Andrews explained the US position.
At the same time, official Washington does not seek to be a party to negotiations on this issue, insistently pointing at the need for direct negotiations between the Ukrainian government and International Monetary Fund (IMF), reported Radio Liberty.
«Since the Anti-Corruption Court is one of the most important parts of negotiations with the IMF and is a prerequisite for obtaining the fifth tranche for the total of 1.9 billion dollars, these negotiations should be held only between Ukraine and the IMF», – he stressed.
Andrews also noted that part of the reforms required was getting rid of the oligarchs influence.
«We must help Ukraine to break the chain between the interests of the oligarchs and power, system. We must help Ukrainian government to make decisions in the interests of all Ukrainians, not just a few rich and powerful persons», – he added.
As «The Journalist» reported, President has signed the law on the creation of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
