In Kharkiv Iranian citizen sentenced to 11 years in prison for espionage, the press service of the Kharkiv region prosecutor’s office.

Such decision yesterday, on June 25th, made Ordzhonikidzevsky District Court of Kharkiv.

Thus, information about a 30-year-old graduate student of one of the universities of Kharkiv entered the Security Service of Ukraine in August 2016. According to the operational data, the foreign student met with an employee of a scientific institution, one of the areas of work of which is research in the military sphere. During the meetings, he tried to elicit information containing state secrets.
In the end, the foreigner agreed with the research worker that the latter would sell him certain scientific works. However, the researcher notified the Ukrainian special services about such a commercial offer and the student was detained during the sale of alleged scientific work.

The defendant did not admit his guilt, however, the evidence collected at the pre-trial investigation stage was sufficient to pass judgment.
