In Ukraine, budget losses from smuggling reach $ 4 billion a year, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said during a meeting with representatives of the anti-smuggling business law enforcement bodies with smuggling at customs, reports the Communications Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
«Budget expenditures for this year are UAH 991 billion. Receipts from customs, according to the plan for 2018 – 343 billion UAH, for five months of this year there is performance in the amount of 155 billion UAH. The budget losses that we estimate as a result of contraband, special schemes are 70 billion UAH», Avakov said.
The minister stressed that losses from smuggling exceed the budgets of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. At the same time, according to Avakov, now there is resistance of some structures and individual officials to combat smuggling.
«There are special structures that serve close to legality, but illegal schemes that allow to avoid normal taxation. A quiet war unfolds in the corridors of power», Avakov said.
The minister also explained to business representatives what changes should be expected after the government expanded the powers of the police during customs control.
«Yesterday, on June 21, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved Decree No. 479 and granted more powers to law enforcement officers during customs control. The government has already sent a number of instructions and for each of them GFS, and law enforcers will take a whole range of decisions – joint control groups, a special order of analysis, special procedures for control in neutral waters and waters of Ukraine», Avakov said.
