Moscow said the Ukrainian filmdirector Oleg Sentsov was convicted in Russia on a serious article, and no matter that he does not recognize himself as a citizen of Russia.

The Press Secretary for the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said this as quoted by UNIAN.

«He was convicted on a very serious count, that is the point. It’s about who he is de jure, no matter whom he recognizes himself or whom he does not recognize himself to be», – stressed Peskov, answering the question whether the complexities with swapping Sentsov are not related to the fact that he does not recognize himself as a citizen of Russia.

Peskov confirmed that the issue of swaps was mentioned during a telephone talk between Russian and Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko.

«The ombudspersons of the two countries works on this issue in the framework of these discussions at the level of the Heads of the States», – he said.

As «The Journalist» reported, Poroshenko lifted the ban on entry to Ukraine to Russian Ombudsperson, so that she could visit Russians detained in Ukraine.
