The European Union is preparing a proposal amending the Visa Schengen Code: the EU ambassadors endorsed the draft of the reform. The European Parliament together with the Council of the European Union should consider it.

This is reported on the Council of the EU website.

The visa fee will be increased from €60 to €80, «to ensure the EU member states can better cover costs of visa processing».

According to the reform, applications for visas can be submitted within a period of up to six months and no later than 15 days before the trip. The reform envisages establishing between the EU countries "an agreed approach to issuing multiple entry visas to regular travelers with a positive visa history". The European authorities can issue Schengen visas with gradually increased period going from 1 to 5 years.

«An efficient management of migration includes ensuring that EU member states can return those who do not have a right to stay», – the message said.

As «The Journalist» reported, Great Britain refused Ukraine in negotiations on visa-free travel six times.
