Norway asks the United States to increase the American contingent deployed in the country

The Government of the Kingdom of Norway intends to extend the program of military cooperation with the United States, according to which 330 American Marines are deployed in the West of the country. If the negotiations with Washington will be successful, the number of the American contingent will be increased to 700 Marines. This is reported by Radio Liberty.

In addition the US want to build infrastructure that could accommodate up to four American fighter jets at a base 65 km south the capital of the Kingdom – Oslo, as part of a European deterrence initiative launched after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.

It should be noted that the declared goal of the cooperation program is to improve coordination between the US and Norwegian military and their joint preparation for conducting defensive operations in the Kingdom, including in the Arctic.
