The Olympic National Sports Complex gets elite class stadium status. According to the press service of the stadium, the UEFA representatives presented a certificate on increasing of the stadium’s category to the management of the NSC Olimpiyskiy after Champions League final.
«The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) certifies that the NSC Olimpiyskiy is classified in the UEFA elite list of stadiums», – the certificate says.
Before that, the NSC Olimpiyskiy was classified as the 4th category stadium.
Stadiums of the 4th category have the right to host the World Cup, European Football Championship, Champions League and the Europe League finals. The NSC Olimpiyskiy got this category after the last reconstruction and holding the final part of EURO-2012.
The NSC Olimpiyskiy was built in 1923. During its 95-year history, the arena had four reconstructions and was renamed nine times.
The stadium hosted the Summer Olympics-1980, as well as the European Football Championship 2012. The arena hosts matches of the Ukrainian Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League, matches of the Ukrainian national team, concerts of world-class stars and other diverse events.
