The European Parliament has recognized opposition politician Juan Guaido as the temporary legitimate president of Venezuela and supported the holding of free and transparent presidential elections in the country, Ukrinform reports.
“The European Parliament confirmed its recognition of Juan Guaido as the legitimate interim president of Venezuela and expressed its full support for his plan on formation a national transitional government and holding special presidential elections,” the statement said.
In addition, the deputies recognized Maduro’s regime as “illegal” and called to put an end to violence, imprisonment and repression against journalists, political leaders and members of the Guaido team.
