Debris of a mid-16th century ship was accidentally found during the aftermath of the accident with cargo containers dropped into the North Sea near the Vedden Islands (Holland), Nltimes writes.

The wreckage of wooden beams and copper plates stamped with the Fugger family, which were monopolists for the production of copper in the 16th century. According to the statement of the National Agency of Cultural Heritage of the Netherlands, the found fragments are the oldest ever found in the Dutch waters.

According to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ingrid Van Engelshoven, this is a really a happy event.

“I am very interested in finding out. This is the beauty of archeology: it excites the imagination and curiosity. I consider this discovery to be the enrichment of our heritage,” said Ingrid Van Engelshoven.

Investigations of the wreckage and the accident site will continue.
