International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Hamburg began hearings on the illegal detention of 24 Ukrainian sailors, Ukrinform reports.

“At the hearings, which will be held from 10 am to 1 pm (local time) will speak the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the head of the state delegation to the International Tribunal Olena Zerkal, and 4 well-known international experts: partners of Covington & Burling LLP Marney Cheek and Jonathan Gimblett, Secretary General of the Hague Academy of International Law, Professor Jean-Marc Thouvenin, Professor Alfred H. Soons, who was an arbitrator in the maritime law tribunals in many iconic cases of recent years, as well as Sterling Professor in International Law of Yale University,  HaroldKoh,” said in a statement.

It is also known that Russia refused to participate in the hearings.

As The Journalist reported, UN Tribunal should order Russia to release ‘illegally’ seized Ukrainian sailors.
