Citizens of Ukraine who have been convicted in the Kingdom of Thailand for the illegal sale of drugs or counterfeiting of bank cards will be reduced in terms of the coronation of the new monarch Rama the Tenth (King Vajiralongkorn).

According to the Ukrainian Embassy in Thailand, on May 13, a meeting was held between the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Thailand, Andriy Beshta, and the Director of the Correction Department at the Ministry of Justice of Thailand, Naras Savestanan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for signing the Agreement on the transfer of convicted persons between Ukraine and Thailand, as well as the possibility of including Ukrainian prisoners (24 people) in the lists for collective pardon on the occasion of the coronation of the new Thai monarch Rama X (tenth). The Ukrainian side also expressed a request to speed up the consideration of petitions for individual royal clemency of Ukrainians convicted in Thailand.

The head of the Thai Prison Service stressed that as part of the collective royal pardon procedure, which will last for the next four months, a significant number of Ukrainians in Thailand may receive a reduction of sentences by 50% from a court sentence, several people can be released.
