European Commission Vice-President Maros Sefcovic has said that the development of closer relations between the European Union and Ukraine is of great importance for the Ukrainian people.
Sefcovic said of this in Kyiv, answering the question, if he was surprised that the new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in his inaugural speech did not actually mention European integration.
“We very closely followed the course of the election campaign, as a result of which (Zelensky was elected president). And after meeting with the main members of his team, I think that the pro-European orientation of Ukraine, headed by the president, will be in this direction,” Shevchovich said.
At the same time, the EU Vice-President drew attention to the high-level representation from European countries at the inauguration ceremony of Zelensky, UNIAN informs.
“And we are ready to cooperate with Ukraine in the most possible way, and I believe that close relations and more effective cooperation between Ukraine and the EU are of great importance not only for our bilateral relations, but also for the Ukrainian people,” Sefcovic said.
