The Council of the European Union has finally approved the directive, which provides for the ban in the EU of some disposable plastic products for which there is an alternative. This is reported by the German international television and radio DW.
According to the new rules, plastic plates, cutlery, drinking tubes, balloon holders and disposable cotton swabs will be banned until 2021.
In addition, until 2029, nine out of ten used plastic bottles should be sorted in the trash. A plastic bottle, commercially available, until 2025 should contain at least a quarter of the material suitable for recycling, and by 2030 – 30%.
It also provides for the possibility of bringing producers of plastic products to responsibility and representatives of the tobacco industry to recover funds for the disposal of cigarette butts.
The governments of the EU member states have two years to bring their national legislation in line with the new standards.
Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that in Geneva, more than 180 countries have signed a pact to combat plastic garbage.
