The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, headed by Chairman Refat Chubarov, called on the MPs of the Verkhovna Rada of the ninth convocation to amend the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Refat Chubarov published corresponding appeal on his Facebook page.
Chubarov drew attention to the need to complete the work on amending Section X “Autonomous Republic of Crimea” of the Constitution of Ukraine.
He also noted that a special Working Group led by a doctor of law, professor Volodymyr Butkevych and with the active participation of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, has developed a draft law “On Amending Section X of the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).
This bill provides for improving the existing status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea as an integral component of Ukraine and indicates that the source of the special status of the Crimean autonomy is the right of the Crimean Tatar people to self-determination as an indigenous people in Ukraine.
As The Journalist reported, Volker believes Ukraine will have to wait Crimea de-occupation for long time.
