The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs decide to reject the petition to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33 in Ukraine as genocide.

This was announced by a member of the Bundestag Petition Committee, a deputy from the ruling Christian Democratic Union Arnold Faatz, Deutsche Welle reports.

The petition on the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 in Ukraine as genocide was discussed at the open meeting of the Bundestag Petition Committee on October 21.

“The Foreign Ministry wants the petition to be rejected because the concept of genocide was not defined until 1951. In my opinion, this argument is very technocratic. The same applies to another argument – that, besides Ukrainian, this artificially designed famine had other victims, in particular, in Russia and the Caucasus. This argument, in my opinion, is also more like an excuse,” Faatz said.

According to the deputy, such an argument is quite dangerous.

“It contradicts the assessment that we rightly give today to the illegal actions of the National Socialist regime in Germany. Indeed, then, soon, the Nazis will begin to demand that Hitler’s genocide, which also took place before the definition of this concept, was also overestimated accordingly. After all, this also happened before 1951,” a member of the committee said.

Faatz believes that such a decision by the Foreign Ministry “means to kneel before Russia.”

“Obviously, no one wants a new topics for confrontation with Russia. Moreover, many states have already spoken out about how they see the Holodomor, namely: that it was genocide. And it is clear that the Germany opinion in this context would be significant,” he said.

“Thus, it can be expected that the petition committee will not submit the petition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with requests to implement it, but will reject it,” Faatz predicts.

As The Journalist reported, Zelensky calls on Israel to recognize Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainian people.
