Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov, who has been fried from Russian captivity, has in person received a Magnitsky Human Rights Award. It is reported by the Voice of America.
Sentsov was awarded the prize in the field of investigative journalism and human rights protection. The award was presented by American television presenter Megan McCain, the daughter of the late Senator John McCain.
Sentsov was due to receive the award back in November last year, but he was in jail in Russia on charges of allegedly preparing terrorist attacks in the annexed Crimea.
The Magnitsky Award has been granted since 2015 for the merits in investigative journalism and for human rights protection.
Recall that earlier in October Oleh Sentsov received the Ukrainian ID Awards. Sentsov became the first winner of the Ukrainian ID Awards, which was founded in 2018 at the initiative of civil society under the auspices of the Humanitarian Development Fund of Ukraine.
As The Journalist reported, Sentsov gets Polish Eagle for Courage and Invincibility award.
