U.S. plans to allocate about USD 1 billion for the construction of energy infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine.
This was discussed at the meetings between Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and American congressmen, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
Kuleba spoke in favor of adopting a draft law on the energy security of Europe, which will soon be considered in Congress. The bill provides for the allocation of about USD 1 billion to American companies for the construction of energy infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. This will make it possible to diversify natural gas flows and reduce dependence on Russian energy resources.
During the meeting, Kuleba discussed with American high-ranking officials and congressmen the energy security of Europe, the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, the provision of military assistance to Ukraine under the new defense budget, progress in Ukrainian reforms and in the fight against corruption and the further development of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States.
According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the sanctions included in the law on the defense budget will be adopted in the Senate of the US Congress, signed by the President of the United States and implemented if the company related to the implementing of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline project doesn’t stop its sub-sanctions activity.
Recall that Kuleba paid a working visit to the United States on December 11-13.
As The Journalist reported, Germany’s Bundestag implements Gas Directive regulating Nord Stream 2 pipeline project.
