Ukraine will pay about USD 1.7 million to the United Nations regular budget for 2020, according to Oleh Nikolenko, speaker of Ukraine’s Permanent Mission to the UN.
The UN General Assembly approved the regular budget of the organization, which amounted to USD 3.1 billion in 2020.
“For the first time, the budget was adopted not for 2 years, but for 1 year. A more flexible approach to fund planning is part of the ongoing reform,” Nikolenko said.
According to the speaker, the regular budget covers all activities of the UN system, except peacekeeping operations, since there is a separate budget for such operations, which was approved this summer. It amounts to USD 6.5 billion per year.
In addition, the UN budget will be replenished by Member States contributions in accordance with the approved scale. The due date is January 31. The USA has the largest share (22%).
