The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports plans to continue revising the bill on disinformation, according to the head of the Ministry of Culture Volodymyr Borodiansky in his Telegram channel.

Currently the bill is at the stage of public discussion, which will be extended.

“I emphasize that we have only a bill as for today. It is still widely discussed by the professional community. The first strategic session on consideration of main issues that require additional professional discussions has already been held. The bill will be finalized and submitted to the government only after completion of this stage. It will be an open process and reasonable proposals from ministries, professionals, the public and our international partners will be taken into account before the bill is submitted to the Verkhovna Rada,” the statement said.

On January 17, the Ministry of Culture introduced a bill on disinformation. It provides for punishment for fake information – from administrative fines to imprisonment.

The bill was criticized by the European Federation of Journalists. The head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine also criticized the bill.

Borodiansky: Law on misinformation does not include imprisonment.
