The United States has announced they included the Nord Stream 2 and the second string of the Turkish Stream projects into the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA- ed.). This was stated by the U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, Ukrinform reports.
The Department of State has renewed its mandate under CAATSA to include the Nord Stream 2 and the second string of the Turkish Stream projects.
“This action puts investments or other activities that are related to these Russian energy export pipelines at risk of U.S. sanctions,” Pompeo said.
To him, these projects are aimed at increasing the “malicious influence of Russia” in the region, undermining transatlantic security and have nothing to do with commerce.
