The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine said that they are closely monitoring the situation with the detention of several dozen Russian militants by Belarusian law enforcement officers. According to media reports, among the militants are those who have been fighting against Ukraine in Donbas.
“Ukraine has long warned that members of the Russian occupation forces and illegal armed groups that participated in the hostilities in eastern Ukraine are being involved in other conflicts around the world and pose real threat. The identification of these militants in Belarus confirms this fact and indicates that they can be used to destabilize the situation in Belarus on the eve of the presidential elections,” the Foreign Ministry said.
In this regard, the diplomatic department emphasizes that Ukraine develops good-neighborly relations with neighboring Belarus, fully supports its sovereignty and independence.
“The issue of possible extradition or other legal actions will be decided by the relevant law enforcement and special bodies,” the Ukrainian diplomats emphasized.
