16 port employees have already been detained during the investigation over possible causes of Beirut explosion, Associated Press reports.
The military judge leading the investigation said 16 employees of Beirut’s port were detained.
According to him, 18 people had been questioned, including port and customs officers.
“While investigators focus on port officials, many Lebanese put the blame squarely on the political elite and the corruption and mismanagement that even before the disaster has pushed the country to the brink of economic collapse,” the newspaper notes.
