European Parliament committee to hold an emergency meeting on Belarus

European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold an emergency meeting on the political situation in Belarus, EP website reports.

The meeting is scheduled for August 25. The members of the committee will discuss the actions that the EU should take to support the course of democracy and freedom in Belarus, as well as to reassess its cooperation with Minsk, including the Eastern Partnership.

The mass protests against the falsification of the presidential elections results started on August 9 and continue for two weeks. According to official data, Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994, won 80.1% of the vote.
