The interim government of Libya, headed by Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani, has submitted a letter of resignation to the country’s parliament, Ukrinform reports.

The resignation letter was submitted amid ongoing protests in the east of the country caused by worsening of socio-economic conditions and power outages.

There is currently a dual power in Libya: the interim government, together with Parliament in Tobruk, which controls the eastern part and has the support of the Libyan National Army (ENL) led by Marshal Jalifa Haftar, and the Government of National Accord, based in Tripoli, in the northwest of the country and supported by UN.
