A batch of medical equipment, which includes 100 oxygen concentrators, was delivered to Ukraine, the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine said.

“The equipment was purchased by WHO with the EU financial support provided. The equipment intended for 44 medical facilities that treat coronavirus patients and will help them to recover from a serious illness caused by coronavirus. The equipment will be provided to hospitals in the regions of Ukraine most affected by coronavirus, including Lviv, Chernivtsi, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk regions, Kyiv and Uman,” the report reads.

The equipment was procured by the WHO Regional Office for Europe with EU funding under the Solidarity for Health initiative. The total cost of this delivery is over EUR 78,000.

“Oxygen concentrators are a non-invasive way to provide oxygen to hospitalized coronavirus patients. Providing supplemental oxygen is an important first step in treating severe coronavirus patients who have low blood oxygen levels, and this method should be the main treatment choice,” the Office said.

After all the necessary administrative procedures on the part of the authorities, oxygen concentrators will be distributed by the WHO Office in Ukraine in accordance with the needs of healthcare institutions, as determined by the Ministry of Health in Ukraine.

All supplied equipment has been tested for compliance with quality and safety standards.
