On September 21, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, appealed to the army to help to fight coronavirus outbreak in and around the Spanish capital, El Mundo reports.

Local authorities decided to partially block some poor areas, prompting protests over the weekend. The head of the Spanish government and the president of the autonomous community reached an agreement on coordination between the administrations after Diaz Ayuso presented to the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez a scenario in which the military ensures compliance with the restrictions imposed in Madrid, and the medical workers of the Armed Forces conduct tests antibodies to nearly a million Madrid residents.
