From January 1, 2021, teachers’ salaries will increase by 20%. Compared to April 1, 2020, as of December 1, 2021, the increase will be 30%. This was announced by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.
He said that the Ministry of Education and Science has prepared a bill on social guarantees for pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical workers in case of coronavirus disease.
“This proposal has been agreed, and we expect the president to submit it to parliament. I think that when the parliament starts working, the president will make this proposal,” the minister stressed.
In addition, Serhiy Shkarlet said that a draft government decree has been developed, which provides for an increase in salaries of medical workers of educational institutions by 20%. It is directed to the approval of the central executive authorities.
“There is absolutely close cooperation with the trade unions to gradually increase funds for wages,” the minister stressed.
Serhiy Shkarlet also said that the education budget for 2021 in the first reading was the largest since 2012.
“We got plus 50-100% on all indicators, items and subventions. The reductions that took place between the first and second readings did not depend on the fact that money was taken from us. And from the fact that the increase in the minimum wage from July 1 was postponed to December 1. That is, this is an operational difference. Almost nothing was taken from education. They took 500 million, that is, capital expenditures. But I am sure that during 2021 we will be able to catch up a little, redistribute the budget in a certain way, and we will fight for this,” the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine noted.
