The largest TPPs have asked the Cabinet of Ministers to ban the import of electricity from Russia and Belarus. They also ask for assistance in the abolition of artificial price restrictions that threaten the passage of the heating season. This was stated in an open appeal of the Ukrainian Energy Association.

“The scenario of 2020 of electricity import from the aggressor country is repeated again, which leads to a collapse of the indicative price of electricity to UAH 1,200/MWh. Since February 11, 2021, the volume of imports has increased to 1,800 MWh,” the association said in a statement.

The exponentially increased import artificially drops the price on the Day-ahead Market and leads to losses for Ukrainian producers.

Also, heat and electricity producers asked the government to help lift price restrictions on the market by increasing price caps to UAH 3,000/MWh during peak periods and to UAH 2,000/MWh during the minimum load period.
