At least 977 civilians died and another 1,528 were injured from the explosion of landmines since the beginning of an armed conflict in Donbas.

This was reported by the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine.

In view of this situation, the first and foremost tasks is to warn the local population about mine contamination, to mark danger territories and to provide training, especially for children and youth in educational institutions.

In particular, for the introduction of such events the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories for the first time received funding in the amount of UAH 5 million allocated from the state budget this year.

“Thousands of square kilometers of Donbas remain contaminated with landmines, demining can last for decades, and constant shelling conducted by the illegal armed groups complicates this situation. What can be done effectively today is to protect the population by teaching them how to behave safely, as well as to help the victims,” the report says.

As The Journalist reported, 56 civilians dead and 158 more injured from mines and unexploded ordnance over past two years in Donbas.
