The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oksana Markarova in an interview on 1 + 1 TV channel has said that tariffs for housing and communal services will not be reduced.
To the minister, the Ministry of Finance and the government are in favor of introducing market prices for energy, in particular for gas. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) required this method of pricing housing and communal services tariffs.
The head of the government Oleksiy Honcharuk in the new project of the Cabinet of Ministers provides for the payment of utilities for low-income families in the amount of not more than 15% of income.
It was also determined that the amount of state social assistance to low-income families in 2019 cannot exceed 75% of the level of providing a living wage for a family.
Markarova noted that housing and communal services tariffs will not decrease, and the reason for this lies precisely in factors which affect pricing.
“The issue is in the market formation of tariffs. The price of natural resources must match their price. If the gas price is a market price, then the government should help those who need help with subsidies,” the finance minister said.
Today, the gas pricing mechanism for the population of Ukraine is unfair, because it allows to pay less for communal services both for people with low incomes and people with high incomes.
As The Journalist reported, Ukrposhta will increase tariffs for print media.
