U.S. Homeland Security Secretary (Interior Minister) Kirstjen Nielsen said that the needed to be prepared for an attempt by Russia to interfere in elections in all states.
In particular, Nielsen said that the United States should be prepared for Russia’s attempts to interfere in Congressional elections in all 50 states this year, Reuters reports.
«I don’t think there’s any doubt that they (Russia – ed.) did it, and I think we should all be prepared given that capability and will — that they’ll do it again,» – the minister stressed.
As for the assessment of the US intelligence, which believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin directed a campaign for interference in the election with the benefit of Donald Trump, Nielsen noted: «I haven’t seen any evidence that the attempts to interfere in our election infrastructure was to favor a particular political party.»
«I think what we’ve seen on the foreign influence side is they were attempting to intervene and cause chaos on both sides,» – the minister added.
As «The Journalist» reported, Putin said that the Russian state has never interfered and is not going to interfere in the elections in the United States.
