To prevent possible interference in the midterm elections in the United States, US senators are calling for the immediate development of new sanctions against the Russian Federation, Reuters reported.

Senator Lindsey Graham noted that additional sanctions should be introduced before President Donald Trump holds a second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Graham, this should be heavy-handed sanctions.

In turn, Senator Marco Rubio intends to vote on a bill called DETER, which would impose new sanctions if the US intelligence agency determine the Russian Federation interfered in the elections in the United States.

In addition, Rubio believes that «Russia indisputable did interfere in the elections, and will do so in the future.»

A new package of sanctions will aim to punish the Russia’s finance, defense and energy sectors.

As The Journalist reported earlier, Microsoft accused Russia of cyber attack on candidates to the US Congress.
