NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine received an official notification from a member of the Supervisory Board, Amos J. Hochstein, about the termination of his powers as an independent director in the Supervisory Board of the company, the press service of the NJSC reports.

The American businessman and former diplomat Amos J. Hochstein was the member of the Supervisory Board since 2017.

Among the reasons for his decision to leave the Supervisory Board, Amos Hochstein named the strengthening of opposition to the process of reforming the gas market and the transformation of Naftogaz into an independent efficient company. He also called on the Ukrainian government to continue its policy of ensuring the independence of the supervisory boards in Ukraine as a safeguard against the return of corruption schemes of the past.

Supervisory Board Chair Clare Spottiswood expressed her gratitude to Amos Hochstein for his work and confidence in the future performance of the Supervisory Board.

“I want to thank Mr. Amos J. Hochstein for his extraordinary work in the Supervisory Board, which ensured independence in important decisions, including the extension of the term of the chairman of the board. I would also like to emphasize that in the current state of corporate governance, Naftogaz Group is resilient to outside influences, and the Supervisory Board will continue to protect the company’s decisions from political influence and any attempts to roll back anti-corruption steps in the state-owned energy sector,” Clare Spotiswood said.

At the same time, in his column on the KyivPost, Amos Hochstein wrote that Naftogaz is facing increasing sabotage from corrupt forces.
