Ukrainian Embassy in the UK reported that on October 24 the Gatwick Airport near London has turned down the long-obsolete spelling of the capital of Ukraine, switching it to a correct spelling, that is, “Kyiv”.
From now on, the destination and departure desks will display the name of the Ukrainian capital correctly. This was reported on the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Facebook.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on foreign official institutions and commercial companies to refuse to spell names of Ukrainian cities, that were derived from Russian, and to switch to the correct ones: Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia. In addition, #KyivNotKiev flash mob was launched as part of the campaign.
As The Journalist reported, U.S. corrects international database spelling of Ukraine’s capital.
