Archaeologists discovered remains of a horse in harness in Pompeii

Archaeologists have found the remains of a horse during the archaeological excavations in the territory of one of the houses, located near the walls of the city of Pompeii, BBC reported.

“The horse was harnessed and, apparently, ready to ride. Perhaps the crew was prepared for evacuation of residents who fled from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which occurred in 79 g. e. The city of Pompeii, as a result, was buried under a layer of volcanic ash,” the message says.

It is noted that the remains of a horse were found in a villa that belonged to a high-ranking Roman military man – probably a general. A wooden manger, the bodies of three horses, grapes, furnaces and unusual murals were found at the site of the works. Also, scientists have found fragments of military horse sleighs and saddles, decorated with wooden and bronze elements.
After carrying out the necessary scientific work the entire territory of the villa will be excavated and open to view.
As The Journalist reported, archaeologists had revealed graffiti, proving that Herculaneum and Pompeii were destroyed later than historians believed.
